The ipad has finally arrived and as Steve jobs claims that it’s “more intimate than a laptop and it’s more capable than a smartphone.”  Well, smartphones make and receive phone calls and that’s the reason for attachment  of word “phone” to smartphone, and ipad can’t. It definitely features a faster processor but Nexus one too features a 1GHZ processor but ipad excels with appstore and a brilliant screen. The high-resolution, 9.7-inch LED-backlit IPS display on iPad is remarkably crisp and vivid however, it can’t be compared to a smartphone.

Steve  Jobs once slapped netbooks as cheap laptops and now he says “its more intimate than a laptop”. Let’s compare it with a netbook and see why iPad may not be so hot except for its wow factor:

1. There is no multitasking feature. Well, cheap netbooks can multitask easily.

2. Screen is not widescreen. It’s perfect for reading books but what about watching movies.

3. No Flash support. Steve claims flash a “cpu hog” while millions of website users doesn’t seem to think so.

4. No HD output. May be they will extend this feature in their next release but why they always delay things?

5. No USB Port. Who uses USB now a days?

6. No Camera. Nothing for video chat?

7.  No SD Card Slot as Apple thinks 64 gb will be enough for everybody.

8. iPhone like Operating system which doesn’t provide flexibility as compared to Windows or Linux variants used in Net book.

9. Extra peripherals will come to scene to add features such as keyboard, usb and others which stack up the cost.

10. Ipad doesn’t feature basic productivity suit and thus you are required to shell out additional $10 for each application of iWork.

Even as i laid out few short comings of iPad, it may still be a big hit as iphone too was criticized. Apple’s iPad is a beautiful product with a dedicated developer community which just won’t gave up despite the few short comings listed above. It has thousands of applications which give it an edge over new products featuring any operating system, most notably Android . Apple has developed nothing new, they have just re-designed a product which they know will surely follow on the foot steps of iphone, if not in a big way than surely in a small way which too will be great for Apple.
