2nd day round up – Google’s I/O 2010

Chrome web app store and Google M video format were yesterday’s two biggest announcement from Google I/O 2010.

Froyo as expected – the next Android update  tagged version v2.2 was officially announced to the world. Google introduced a new compiler, which brings a 2-5x speed boost to the system. There are also 20 new enterprise features, including better Exchange integration and device administration APIs, a new backup application that will allow you to exchange data between devices. Android 2.2 also features a new cloud-to-device messaging API, over the air update and iTunes streaming of music to Android device . Google also introduced a new browser which they tagged it as “the world’s fastest mobile browser”. The browser is based on V8 engine – the same Java script engine which powers Google Chrome on desktop, more about it later when we get it to run. The voice command feature too got updated by adding voice triggers. It is basically the ability to distinguish different commands from a sentence and execute them.

Google TV was the next big announcement of the day. It will be an open platform as expected and will be heavily sourced for viewing video content with search integrated. When someone asked Google in comparison with Apple TV, they called it totally different refereeing it to as being completely open. The other aspect which is the hardware which will drive these TV’S were not shared, however Engadget reported that

Google TV devices will have WiFi, HDMI, the Intel CE4100 processor, and… some will have an IR blaster to tune your cable or satellite box, which is just sad. (Like, 1997 sad.) The input devices will all have keyboards, and you’ll also be able to use Android devices as a remote, including using voice search to find content and sending content from the phone to the TV. The software is based on Android with Chrome as the browser and full Flash 10.1 support. Since it’s Android, there’s a version of Android Market — any app that doesn’t require phone hardware can run on Google TV. There will also be a Google TV-specific Android SDK launching in “early” 2011, along with the Android Market for Google TV.

Sony is scheduled to be the first manufacturer to launch Google TV powered devices named as “Sony Internet TV” devices – in the form of either an HDTV or a set-top box with Blu-ray player.
Video published below is from engadget, where guys at engadget managed to get a preview of upcoming Logitech’s Google TV companion box. The device is powered by Intel’s CE4100 “Sodaville” Atom processor operating at 1.2GHz with 4GB of in built memory and 802.11n WiFi. The device is packed with two USB sockets, wired LAN jack and two IR headers for additional connectivity, a pair of HDMI 1.3 ports for visual wow and Dolby 5.1 surround sound for audio wow.

I don't feel google will turn evil. It is just looking to take Internet to a new level, so that it's ad revenues doesn't get hamper. I found froyo more compelling and attractive than news of Google TV. I am not so keen on that project.

I love Google for its open nature.. but it is already the biggest player in virtual word.. and now it is looking to go everywhere.. What will happen.. if one day Google turns evil?
