Adobe Photoshop CS5 : First Impressions

Adobe is currently developing Photoshop CS5, which is expected to be released in mid-2010. Few videos were posted by the development team showcasing what lies ahead on facebook. Adobe photoshop CS5 is poised to feature new brushes which include three dimensional brushes, better masking, enhanced detection of objects and few others. Adobe CS5 is expected to make strong use of CUDA technology on Nvidia graphics cards.

Graphics card made by Nvidia only supports CUDA as they were the pioneer of this technology. CUDA (an acronym for Compute Unified Device Architecture) is a parallel computing architecture . CUDA has several advantages over traditional general purpose computation on GPUs (GPGPU) using graphics APIs.

These videos are themselves self-explanatory, just go through them.

1. Better Edge detection and masking

2. Straighten Tool – It has been made easier to implement

3. Painting, Brushes and other tools showcased on new code

4. “PatchMatch” functionality – This functionality was demonstrated in removing a person who was standing against a wall. Rather than the background color showing through it auto filled with the texture of the wall.

Software made by adobe are always demanding taking every possible performance into count. What I didn't liked was Adobe favoring NVIDIA'S graphics card, when you consider recent crunching numbers delivered by ATI. It seems just a deal between Adobe and Nvidia.
