According to a source, Apple has recently filed for a patent related to a facial recognition system that is related to unlocking of devices. The patent caters to use of face for unlocking the device, as well as using movement patters than can be used be for locking the device, also understand who is unlocking the device by understanding facial, say recognizing the face of a child who is just holding the device.
Apple has filed for the patent but that doesn’t necessarily mean, that the technology will be used in any of upcoming Apple product. I am never a big fan of the patent system, and this facial recognition system has yet to be perfected from a hardware, as well as software perspective. For the face recognition thing to work as desired, you need proper light always which isn’t available all the time, proper distance between the phone and your face and few other things.

The filed patent uses the term plural meaning that there is a possibility of loading multiple profiles on the same device, depending upon the user. The phones are nowadays very personal, and thus can’t imagine a phone being shared between two users (this isn’t a PC). However, there might be other implications which my brain as of now, isn’t being able to think of.
This isn’t the first time that Apple has applied for a patent related to unlocking of a device. We will update you as this story pans out in the future.
