Now You can Play Flash on Apple’s iPad

Adobe recently announced the success of iPad as it managed to sell 2 million units within 60 days despite it’s few short-comings. Asking Apple to provide us with the flash feature on our iDevice is like fighting a lost battle. However, thanks to Chris Smoak, there is a way to play flash videos on iPad.

The workaround developed by Chris is called SmokeScreen. It runs entirely in the browser, reads in SWF binaries, unzips them (in native JS), extracts images and embedded audio and turns them in to base64 encoded data:uris, then stitches the vector graphics back together as animated SVG. It’s written in Java framework and thus work as JavaScript in your browser.

HP Taiwan confirms pre-October launch of webOS tablet

According Digitimes, HP Taiwan Vice President Monty Wong has confirmed a webOS based tablet. It is scheduled to be launched in October of this year. Earlier, there were reports of Palm, launching an webOS based tablet, however due to Palm’s manufacturing capabilities and financial trouble shooting, there was skepticism towards this story.

We know HP bought Palm, and thus it shouldn’t be of any surprise to see an webOS driven tablet in the market. HP, earlier was looking at Android to drive its launch and now with its own webOS, it is looking to accelerate things. Still, these are just reports from credible sources.

OLED Screen Shortage Continues – Samsung struggling to cope up with demand

OLED screens are in great demand, especially among users who go for high-end products. This has resulted in product manufacturers scaling up the demand for OLED screens which is good for Industry. Now the sad part of the story is that Samsung’s VP of Marketing, Lee Wong-jong announced that Samsung would probably not be able to fulfill all the demands being placed upon it for OLED screens.

Lee further added that “… demand for high-end displays is very strong and we may continue to fail to meet all customer requirements, even after expanding capacity by seven-fold, until next year.” Smaung have been desperately trying to keep up with demand and the shortfall is having noticeable effects on consumers, especially as smartphone sales look to be 50% higher this year than last.

For instance, Verizon in the U.S. reports that the Droid Incredible hasn’t outsold the DROID, largely due to the fact that not enough screens can be produced to make Droid Incredibles. For their part Samsung have committed to spending some $2.15 billion to build the world’s lrgest supply of AMOLED displays by 2012.

Apple plays tribute to Newton

Newton was Apple’s first tablet, a PDA with handwriting recognition which still has plenty of hardcore fans but went down in history as one of Cupertino’s biggest flops. The new iPad video ad below recalls the TV advertising for the Newton, remaking the “What is Newton?” campaign for the modern age as “What is iPad?”

In both the iPad ad and the Apple Newton spot, a gruff voiced man runs down the features of the product while ordinary folk fondle the tech. And just as Apple now calls the iPad “magical”, the What Is Newton? ad declared it to be “magic”.

A fighter aircraft is a aircraft designed primarily for air-to-air combat with other aircraft, as opposed to a bomber, which is designed primarily to attack ground targets by dropping bombs. 10 Simple reasons for Why iPad doesn’t deserve much attention

The ipad has finally arrived and as Steve jobs claims that it’s “more intimate than a laptop and it’s more capable than a smartphone.”  Well, smartphones make and receive phone calls and that’s the reason for attachment  of word “phone” to smartphone, and ipad can’t. It definitely features a faster processor but Nexus one too features a 1GHZ processor but ipad excels with appstore and a brilliant screen. The high-resolution, 9.7-inch LED-backlit IPS display on iPad is remarkably crisp and vivid however, it can’t be compared to a smartphone.

Steve  Jobs once slapped netbooks as cheap laptops and now he says “its more intimate than a laptop”. Let’s compare it with a netbook and see why iPad may not be so hot except for its wow factor:

1. There is no multitasking feature. Well, cheap netbooks can multitask easily.

2. Screen is not widescreen. It’s perfect for reading books but what about watching movies.

3. No Flash support. Steve claims flash a “cpu hog” while millions of website users doesn’t seem to think so. Continue reading “10 Simple reasons for Why iPad doesn’t deserve much attention” »
