Nokia to release New Smartphone E7 @ Nokia World event in London next week

Nokia, now a days only makes news for wrong reasons is looking to get up , which could save the career of its CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo. The cellphone maker is poised to unveil its new flagship model E7, which comes with a large touchscreen and full keyboard, at the show in London, two sources with direct knowledge of Nokia’s plans told Reuters. Nokia will also introduce to the public its new N8 model, which is the first phone to use the new Symbian 3 software, along with other new smartphones, the sources said.

“As the N8 starts shipping and other devices are unveiled, Nokia will be hoping that it can lay the foundation stones for its recovery given the onslaught of competitive products currently hitting the market,” said Ben Wood, director of research at CCS Insight. ”It has made some big commitments on fixing Symbian and its first flagship product using the refreshed Symbian operating system. Failure is not an option,” Wood said.

Samsung i8910 HD gets two more unofficial updates – HX-V8-32 and n2o4

Samsung  i8910 HD, one of its product from the portfolio of Symbian is often left out due to boom that is happening in other operating systems such as Android, which makes Samsung put more resources on Android rather than Symbian. The Symbian S60-powered smartphone recently got two additional fix-ups from its users – HyperX’s HX-V8-32and faenil’s n2o4.

As you can presume, you can’t install both of these – you’ll have to pick which one will run on your respective i8910 HD. Either way, by installing any of the two – you’ll be significantly upgrading the existing firmware. I ain’t gonna suggest which one is better (cause both rock) and will leave you to pick the personal favorite.

Japanese use Symbian^2 OS, The First Use Ever

NTT DOCOMO – Japanese cellular carrier, has launched World’s first two Symbian^2 OS based handsets namely the docomo PRIME series™ F-06B, docomo STYLE series™ F-07B and docomo STYLE series F-08B manufactured by Fujitsu and the docomo PRIME series SH-07B manufactured by Sharp. These phones are wrapped with a customised UI layer (known as MOAP). The platform, effectively a variant specialised for the Japanese market, is developed co-operatively between NTT DoCoMo, Fujitsu and Sharp.

Microsoft to launch Office 2010 Support for Nokia’s E-Series devices

Microsoft launched office 2010 system in India and during it’s launch it also announced a new agreement with Nokia where it will soon to providing support of Microsoft Office 2010, starting with Nokia’s E-Series devices. It will later be expanded to other Symbian devices.

Nokia announces new version of Ovi Maps – faster and more accurate, showcases it on Nokia N8

Nokia announced a new 3.04 version of Ovi Maps implementing more accurate positioning, faster zooming and panning as well as faster tilting. They have optimized the process of acquiring the location and added Wi-Fi positioning in the mix. They have also optimized the graphics performance when zooming in and out of maps, panning and tilting. Nokia has also partnered with few service providers namely Telegate in Gernamy, Cityvox in France, Lonely Planet, Qype in Europe to add more information to the database of Ovi Maps. The content from these service providers will be not pre-loaded in the handset unlike maps which are pre-installed, and thus will bear data charges. Skype and Nokia today jointly announced the release of Skype, a Skype client for Nokia smartphones based on the Symbian platform, the world’s most popular smartphone platform. Skype for Symbian will allow Nokia smartphone users worldwide to use Skype on the move, over either a WiFi or mobile data connection (GPRS, EDGE, 3G). It is now downloadable for free via ovi store.
