Nokia announces new version of Ovi Maps – faster and more accurate, showcases it on Nokia N8

Nokia announced a new 3.04 version of Ovi Maps implementing more accurate positioning, faster zooming and panning as well as faster tilting. They have optimized the process of acquiring the location and added Wi-Fi positioning in the mix. They have also optimized the graphics performance when zooming in and out of maps, panning and tilting. Nokia has also partnered with few service providers namely Telegate in Gernamy, Cityvox in France, Lonely Planet, Qype in Europe to add more information to the database of Ovi Maps. The content from these service providers will be not pre-loaded in the handset unlike maps which are pre-installed, and thus will bear data charges. Apple plays tribute to Newton

Newton was Apple’s first tablet, a PDA with handwriting recognition which still has plenty of hardcore fans but went down in history as one of Cupertino’s biggest flops. The new iPad video ad below recalls the TV advertising for the Newton, remaking the “What is Newton?” campaign for the modern age as “What is iPad?”

In both the iPad ad and the Apple Newton spot, a gruff voiced man runs down the features of the product while ordinary folk fondle the tech. And just as Apple now calls the iPad “magical”, the What Is Newton? ad declared it to be “magic”.

All the showcased features are already known or nothing to shout about except for ebook application, which holds a promise but can’t confirm the use of a proprietary format or pdf format on its operating system.

Hubble Telescope By NASA – 20 Years down the memory lane

This is a must see video for all those people who love to gaze at sky showcasing Hubble. The Hubble Space Telescope (HST) is a space telescope that was carried into orbit by a space shuttle in April 1990. It is named after the American astronomer Edwin Hubble. Although not the first space telescope, Hubble is one of the largest and most versatile, and is well-known as both a vital research tool and a public relations boon for astronomy.

Symbian Foundation showcases Symbian Operating System V3

Symbian 3 is scheduled for release this year, probably in the last quarter. There are no phones with working demo yet, but few aspects of user interface were peeked to a  live audience through laptop. The emphasis was more on multitasking, where multitasking was not limited to just opening up of multiple windows at a time but rather processing of functions simultaneously. They have also added more options to homescreen by extending the number of homescreen and more intelligent placement of widgets. The have further enhanced the performance of graphics by 3 percent. Samsung showcases Super AMOLED Display

Samsung has currently aired an add on youtube showcasing the capabilities of new super AMOLED display which they are going to embed on their new mobile phones. Unlike a regular touchscreen AMOLED display, the Super AMOLED display doesn’t require a separate touchscreen layer because it has it built-in. That allows for faster response, less reflections and enhanced colors. The first mobile phone that is supposed to feature this is “Samsung Wave” which was showcased on 14th of February.
