Gmail was launched by Google in the year 2004, and it has since been 8 years of a long run. The approach to email was before restrictive and obstructive with minimum of online storage for a user, spam issue and banner ads popping everywhere. Google changed all that with Gmail, an initial offering of 1 GB of storage, cleaner interface, no limit on the level of spam-filters and others.
Gmail made many players such as Yahoo and Hotmail change its rules and offerings. In a way, it changed the offering by a very radical approach for good.

Here, we aren’t discussing about the goodness that Gmail bought for users. We highlight a fact that Gmail has finally achieved to bypass Hotmail in terms of popularity. It has taken 8 long years to bypass Hotmail, and it is quite amusing seeing the things which it introduced.
The fact can be contributed to the fact that it is very difficult to dislodge someone who has achieved something, and catching up takes time. Hotmail itself has changed from what it was in the year 2004, and it’s now a more robust product under the live umbrella offering from Microsoft.
