According to the New York Times, Google is reportedly building a new platform in association with Sony and Intel to deliver a medium, where users can browse the web while watching their Television. The new platform is being dubbed “Google TV” as of now and would be available as a set-top box or as part of a Internet service or embedded in to the television itself. Google will soon release a developer tool kit in a few months, hoping to encourage developers to create apps for Google TV.
This concept is nothing new and has been tried in the past but it couldn’t take off due to lack of interest, either shown by companies or consumers. Whatever may have the case, Google is now seriously exploring every gateway to advertising.
