Japanese use Symbian^2 OS, The First Use Ever

NTT DOCOMO – Japanese cellular carrier, has launched World’s first two Symbian^2 OS based handsets namely the docomo PRIME series™ F-06B, docomo STYLE series™ F-07B and docomo STYLE series F-08B manufactured by Fujitsu and the docomo PRIME series SH-07B manufactured by Sharp. These phones are wrapped with a customised UI layer (known as MOAP). The platform, effectively a variant specialised for the Japanese market, is developed co-operatively between NTT DoCoMo, Fujitsu and Sharp.

Manufacturers, such as Nokia, Samsung and Sony Ericsson, decided not to use Symbian^2 and, instead opted for Symbian^3 from Symbian^1.
