There was a report that surfaced online related to Windows 8 apps being downloaded from Microsoft’s app store without the need to pay for them. There was a flaw that was detailed by few hackers which made it possible for users of Windows 8 to benefit from it. The flaw turned trial version of Windows 8 apps into full-fledged paid versions without the need of paying.
Microsoft has admitted the existence of such a flaw, and now says that they are working on it to address the issue as soon as possible.
“We’re aware of a rootkit that has been developed that is intended to bypass the paid app mechanism for Windows Store apps. We have seen a limited number of people use this method to extend trial durations, convert trials to full featured applications and to install applications on more machines than five computers.” – Microsoft
