Microsoft will soon be rolling out the Metro User Interface elements on Hotmail. The level of integration is deep and firstly, below are the leaked screenshots.
The look implements the buttons that are present on Windows Phone. Reportedly the interface has been made faster and cleaner giving quick access to most used functions.
Microsoft will also be offering a new email address. This new email address will be able to receive emails sent to earlier address and also, all the previously existing settings, mails, folders and filters will be automatically copied to new one.
This was already expected that Microsoft will be integrating Facebook services and Twitter into the new Hotmail account. Microsoft already connects Facebook with your live account but the level of integration is limited to fetching Facebook posts and posting a post, but this time the integration will be more deep.
This will be good for users who are blocked from Facebook and Twitter via Firewall in offices, as now they can receive notifications in hotmail. Your contacts will automatically be synced with your hotmail account.
Microsoft is surely rolling a good revamp of their existing product but how many will be looking to switch their email account? Microsoft already has a good user base with hotmail but Gmail and Yahoo have surged ahead by rolling constant changes, though Yahoo to a lesser degree.
Microsoft has plans to unify its every existing product by using Metro User Interface and closely integrate its services (Windows phone, Microsoft Windows, cloud based skydrive, internet live services). They are hopeful of seeing positive results by 2016 and we too think that they are moving in the right direction but aren’t sure of the outcome of results as competition is tough.
