According to few Chinese reports, Microsoft has signed a deal with Huawei to make the upcoming Surface phone. The supposed upcoming surface phone won’t have high-end specifications, and will be sold to cater to Chinese demography only.
The Smartphone will be a budget phone costing $199, and will be poised to compete with cheap Android offerings from other manufacturers in the region.
We don’t think that this story is true, but that’s only what we think and doesn’t necessarily our thinking has to be true.
The first point that goes against the story is that Windows Phone 8 requires good specifications to run, and thus you don’t see Windows 7.5 devices getting the OS 8 update. So, naturally the surface phone can’t be that cheap.
Also, the US companies generally shy away from having deals with Huawei due to the company having alleged close ties with the Chinese government, but that point doesn’t always need to be true.
The next thing is that Microsoft has launched few phones in the past with great failure, and they don’t want to repeat that again. Nokia and HTC and have showcased Windows Phone 8 with nice hardware, and there is no need to show, how to make a good phone?
Nokia itself is gunning for the Chinese market, and seeing Microsoft too going for the same pie of the piece might be annoying to them.
The surface tablet was launched to show a good Windows 8 tablet which other PC manufacturers can emulate, rather than always looking at iPad.
