Samsung Galaxy S II to get Android 4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) update

Android 4.0

Samsung Italy has officially acknowledged the not very soon to be available Ice cream sandwich (Android 4.) update for users of Samsung Galaxy II. The update is be rolled out in the second quarter of 2012 and the notable devices set to receive the update include Samsung Galaxy S II, Samsung Galaxy Note, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9, Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7, and Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus.

The first device that will be ship with Android 4 will be the Samsung Galaxy Nexus which is set to be launched next month. Most of the manufacturers are confused about rolling out Android 4 update for their handsets. They know that the rolling out of update will take some time. Google asks manufacturers of Android handsets to support a maximum of 18 months with software updates but releasing update for Manufactures is quite a bumpy ride as they don’t have control over the manner in which Google makes these build available for them.

Motorola Droid RARZ is another handset that has been confirmed as receiving the Android 4 update, probably also in the second quarter. Samsung has the advantage of getting their hands early on Android 4 but it’s remain to be seen, the way it translates for consumers.
