Sony is now offering the Sony Xperia S, Xperia P, and Xperia U fully unlocked in the United States. For the past few months, Sony was looking to finalize a deal with celluar carriers, but didn’t got anything. Now, they are offering these via various Sony outlets and at Newegg.
Nokia tried a similar move to sell them unlocked but they failed. Samsung succeeds in selling big number of phones in the US due to various offering that they make through national carriers. Unlike Nokia which had to open its own strores and start from scractch, Sony already has the presence of stores.
The phones are being offered with Gingerbread (Android 2.3) running inside, however expect to get the ICS update in future.
Below are the prices of the unlocked version of NXT Xperia phones in US
- Xperia S - $559.99 (white)
- Xperia P - $479.99 (silver, red and black)
- Xperia U - $299.99 (black and white)
These phones support the same bands as the Eoropean ones, so you are out of luck if thinking of getting 4G connectivity.
