Upgrading HTC Hero to Android OS 2.1 will wipe contact info, text messages, and certain voicemails

On Wednesday Sprint released a new version of Android OS 2.1 for HTC Hero which brings several new features and also improve functionality. The upgrade, however, comes with a little drawback. Since, Android 2.1 has gone little change in working, upgrading means deletion of contact info, text messages, and certain voicemails.

Sprint in its press release stated “Installing the update will delete all information from your device,” including “contacts that have not been synced to an email account, text messages that have not been forwarded, saved voicemail messages older than 5 days, voicemails older than 20 days that have not been listened to, and call history. The calendar and email settings will also revert back to factory defaults.”

However, Google offers a service allowing you to backup some up of your data and can be stored back while the process of upgradation is complete. The data stored in memory card such as Images, sounds and videos doesn’t get affected while upgrading.
